February Ipsy 2017

I really liked the simplicity of last month’s Ipsy bag design. This month? Not so much. Last year’s February design was cute and super fitting with the month. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t  see the appeal of denim with bright orange trim. So not my style. Luckily, the contents of this month’s bag are much nicer than it’s design.

Nyx Butter Lipstick in Ripe Berry // Nyx is one of my favorite brands, so this lipstick is a welcomed addition to my bag this month. This is a pretty berry color with a smooth formula that I can’t wait to test out.

Bella Pierre Cosmetics Volumelash Waterproof Mascara // I’m in the need for a new everyday mascara. I tend to stick towards non-waterproof, but as the weather starts to heat up in SoFlo, it’s a must have. I prefer volumizing mascara to lengthening so I’m sure I’ll love this one.

True Botanicals Resurfacing Moisture Mask // If we’re being honest, I’m pretty sick of getting skincare in my Ipsy bags. I have a good thing going with my Lush products and my skin is too sensitive to throw new products from new brands into the mix. I’m sure this is probably a good product, but I probably won’t be giving it a try.

Hikari Cosmetics Cream Eyeshadow in Latte // I love a good neutral eye. This shadow is a gorgeous copper color and the cream formula makes it super easy to apply.

Luxie Beauty Rose Gold Blush Brush 514 // Part of the reason I love Ipsy so much is the brushes. It makes it so easy to build up my brush collection and test out new brands. Luxie is one of those brands that I’ve really come to adore. Their brushes are some of the softest and apply beautifully.

I’m fairly pleased with this month’s bag as I know I’ll get some nice use out of most of these products.

January Favorites 2017

I didn’t go too crazy with product exploration this January. After an expensive Christmas season and recent vacation, it’s time to save up my pennies. Nonetheless, I still tried out a few new items that I really enjoyed.

Frizz Ease Flawlessly Straight Shampoo and Conditioner // I bought these on a whim after running out of my favorite L’oreal Ultimate Straight shampoo and conditioner. I’m a big fan of the Frizz Ease line, and these products did not disappoint. Humidity is very high where I live, so I tend to gravitate towards products to combat frizz. This shampoo and conditioner combo helps to tame frizz, keeps my hair soft and smooth, and smells wonderful. Definitely one of my new favorites!

Lush Twilight Shower Gel // I received this as a Christmas gift and was not sure if I’d like it. Lavender is not my thing, but this stuff smells awesome. I use this when I shower at night to help me relax and get ready for the night.

Tarte Maracuja Oil // My skin gets really dry really easily. Even after moisturizing, I can still get dry patches here and there, so this is so helpful with combating my dry skin. I use this in conjunction with my Lush moisturizer and I’ve noticed quite a difference.

Other //

La La Land // I know this movie has been talked up but it really is for good reason. This film was a phenomenal combination of story, cinematography, and beautiful music. It’s a feel good drama that I think anyone would enjoy. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for those Oscar wins!
Portland Trip // At the end of January, M and I traveled to Portland to visit my brother. It’s always good to spend time with family, especially when it involves exploring the city and taking a drive down the pacific coast! This trip has really inspired me to start traveling more and I plan on taking at least two more out of state trips in 2017.

Ipsy January 2017

My first Ipsy bag of 2017 was pretty solid. There’s a few products I’ll be sure to use and am excited to test out. This month’s bag is a pretty silver dotted design which I do like. It’s a nice contrast from December’s pink and fuzzy bag which I wasn’t so keen on. Anyways, here are the products I’ve received this month/

Pacifica Blushious Blush in Wildrose // I’ve tried a few pacifica products thanks to Ipsy, and for the most part, I’ve really liked them. This blush is a little more sparkly than what I tend to go for but it’s a really pretty rose color that leans a little more towards a highlighter.

The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer // I’ve heard lots of good things about this bronzer. But as cute as this packaging is, I have no clue how one would fit a bronzer brush in here. It’s a matte warm bronzer that I’ll probably end up using as a crease color.

Jelly Pong Pong Coffee + Coconut Lip Scrub // Even though I live in Florida, my lips tend to get drier in the winter time. Lip scrub is also perfect for when I take off a more drying matte lip product like a Colourpop Ultra Matte Lippie. Coffee and coconut is a weird scent combination in my opinion, but hopefully it grows on me.

Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment in Desert Sunset // This color is gorgeous but I’m really not a fan of loose powders or pigments. I find them much more difficult to use and pretty messy. This pigment is super glittery but it’s really nice. I really do like the shade itself, but would be a little more amped to use it if it was pressed.

Ciaté London Geology Top Coat // This is the product that I’m the most excited for this month. I’ve always wanted to try Ciaté nail products and this one is a full size! Always an added plus. This claims to make any polish look like a gel polish. I plan on using this before my trip to Portland next week to see how well it lasts without chipping.

2016 Beauty Favorites

I can’t believe it’s 2017.

2016 was good to me. I moved out of my parent’s house and into my own apartment with M, I got a promotion at work, and I feel like I’m truly a grown adult. I’m in a completely different place than I was this time last year, and I can’t imagine how I’ll be feeling this time next year.

Anyways, enough sap. Let’s get into my favorite beauty discoveries of 2016!

Colourpop Cosmetics // I’ve been wanting to try Colourpop forever and finally did this fall. I knew I would love their products but wow, was I impressed! Their shadows are so creamy and intensely pigmented like no other. The two lip products I’ve tried are gorgeous matte pinks and have great lasting power. I can’t wait to get more stuff from this brand in 2017!

Covergirl Tru Naked Roses Palette // I got this back in February as I didn’t have any tones like this in my collection. The colors are so pretty and I love how these shadows look on the lids. The quality doesn’t compare to a high-end palette (definitely not a Naked 3 dupe) but the shades totally make up for that.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso // A favorite of so many people, this blush has become my favorite blush in my collection. It’s super pigmented and a little goes a long way. The coral color is perfect for summer, but I definitely wore it year-round. It’s just that pretty.

Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation // A few years back I discovered my love for Covergirl’s Outlast 3 in 1 foundation. This year, I’ve been all about their Ready Set Gorgeous foundation. The squeeze tube application is so convenient and it’s easily buildable. Sometimes it can be tough for me to find the right foundation shade (pale people problems, am I right?). But Covergirl has so many shades. I wear the lightest one and it works perfectly.

Benefit Gimme Brow // While I’m still very attached to Nyx’s Brow Powder, I really love this product. I got a small sample size with my Ipsy points and went through it really quickly. It’s easy to go for either a natural brow look or super defined brows with this depending on how much you build it up. I also like using it to set my brow powder in place.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan // Now I really love this color. The mid toned pink is so pretty and a nice change from all the nudes that I wear. But what I really love is the formula. For a matte lipstick it’s super creamy and once it dries down, it stay smooth and doesn’t dry out my lips like a lot of other matte products. For the most part it also stays put when eating and doesn’t transfer, which is a huge plus when your boyfriend refuses to kiss you when you’re wearing lipstick. They also smell like vanilla deliciousness. I only have one other shade (Tokyo) but can we talk about that vault? I die.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream // I got this in an Ipsy a while ago and didn’t think I’d use it. My skin is so sensitive and my Lush moisturizer is my fave. However, my skin took a complete turn this year and went from being oily to dry and this was a lifesaver. It’s so moisturizing and saved me from having a ton of dry patches. When my current moisturizer runs out, I’ll be swinging by Sephora for a tube of this.

Wet N Wild Brushes // These babies came out this year and have easily become some of my favorite brushes. I love Elf brushes for good quality at an amazing price point, but these are even better. The quality is great, the price is great, and these work beautifully. I need to get some more!

December Ipsy 2016

I’m definitely late to the game with this month’s Ipsy post, but I still wanted to talk about my bag. Things have been pretty hectic around here with the holidays, so I haven’t had the time to write up a post. Anyways, this month’s bag had some pretty good stuff in it! As for the bag itself, I love the idea of using it as a clutch. It’s perfect for the holiday season, but they killed it with the fuzziness. Too tacky for my taste. Here’s what I received in this month’s bag.

Smashbox Insta Matte Lipstick Transformer // I’m a pretty big fan of Smashbox, so I was happy to see a product from them in my bag. This is a pretty cool idea for a product but it does seem a little gimmicky. Usually, if I want a matte finish, I’ll just wear a matte lip color. But I am curious to try this out and see if it does the job without drying out my lips.

OFRA Cosmetics Bliss Eyeshadow/Highlighter // This is the product I’m most excited for as it’s so stinking pretty. This is a gorgeous champagne color that would look good as both a shadow and highlight. I live not too far from the OFRA headquarters  and have driven past it a lot but have never really tried their products so I’m stoked about this one. (Now I really need to get a Z palette to put it in!)

City Color Cosmetics Be Matte Blush // I’ve been wanting to wear more and more matte blushes lately so this came at a great time. I love the variety of shades in this trio and each pan is large enough to swirl my blush brushes in. I’m excited to try these out.

INSPR Duo Brow Highlight // I received an eyeshadow from this brand in an Ipsy earlier in the year that I love so I was happy to see them make another appearance. One side is a peachy color while the other is shimmery. I like a good brow highlight when I have extra time getting ready so this is a nice addition to my bag.

Jersey Shore Cosmetics Peppermint Hydrating Balm // I love lip balm. The peppermint scent is a great touch for the holiday season. However, I got this exact same product, same scent and everything, just from another brand in my October Ipsy. I feel like that’s way too soon for a repeat product. I’ll use it but it would have been nice to have a little more variety.

I do have to say that I love the new way to review items on Ipsy’s site. It’s much more streamlined, easier, and faster to review a product. Now I’ll be sure to review every month to ensure I get better products each month.

November Favorites 2016

How the heck is it already December? The end of the year is practically here which is so hard to believe. November was a fun month filled with new favorite movies, activities, and of course, products!

Colourpop Lippie Stix Matte X in Cami // I placed my first Colourpop order recently, and I have been loving everything I ordered. This color is gorgeous and while it’s a pinky neutral, it leans on the darker side, making it different than anything I own. The matte part of this lipstick is no joke. It’s matte and like most mattes, it is drying, but the beautiful color payoff is totally worth the dry feel.

Colourpop Super Shock Shadows in Drift & Sequin // I’ve also been loving these two shadows in Drift and Sequin. I wore Drift on Thanksgiving and despite forgetting to pack a blending brush (rookie mistake), it still looked so pretty. Sequin is for sure my favorite though. It’s the perfect rose gold shadow and is super glittery, perfect for a night out.

Lorac Pro Palette // I’ve been wearing more shadow lately, It’s a product I tend to go back and forth with. When I’m in the mood for an easy neutral look, I always go back to my Lorac Pro Palette. Lately I’ve been wearing Garnet across the lid with Taupe in the crease and Deep Purple in the outer corner. It’s a simple look for Fall or Winter that’s a little more interesting than a champagne color all over the lid. I’ve hit serious pan on Taupe and am going to be bummed when I inevitably use it up.

Other Favorites //

Westworld // It’s been awhile since I’ve dived into a show and loved it as much as I love Westworld. It’s from the genius mind of Jonathan Nolan, and follows the story of a Western themed amusement park where guests engage with hosts aka robots that look like real humans, and the guests can do literally whatever their heart desires. It’s full of twists and unpredictable scenarios, making you question everything you just saw by the time the credits roll. The season finale aired this past Sunday on HBO so I highly recommend binge watching the show now!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them // I saw this movie towards the end of November and was super pleased with it. It was weird going into a film set in the Harry Potter universe without Harry and the gang, but the magic of Potter movies was still there. Eddie Redmayne was great in the role of Newt Scamander and it was so interesting to get a glimpse into the Wizarding World in America.

Escape Room //  Towards the middle of the month I went to an escape room for the first time with my coworkers as a team bonding event. If you haven’t heard of an escape room, it’s basically a themed room where you’re locked in for an hour with a series of clues and puzzles you have to solve in order to get out of the room. The only way to win is to escape the room within the hour. We did a western themed room and it was such a fun and challenging activity. We somehow made it out of the room with 57 seconds to spare! I highly recommend gathering up some friends or coworkers and doing an escape room together!

Stocking Stuffers for Him

stocking stuffers for men

Stuffing a stocking for a girl is so easy. So many of the things most girls love are small enough for stocking size. Makeup, nail polish, skincare, and the list goes on. But finding stocking stuffers for guys, not so easy.

Sometimes, it can be tough to find small gifts for a guy, especially when that guy has everything. I’ve been with my guy for five years, and every holiday it gets more and more difficult to get creative with small stocking stuffers. So if you’re looking for some holiday gift giving inspiration, you’ve come to the right place.

Gift Cards // Probably the easiest addition to any stocking, gift cards are something you can’t go wrong with. Pick a place your guy loves whether it’s his favorite clothing store or fast food joint.

Pop Vinyl Figures // My guy and I collect the regular Pop Vinyls but these are bit too large to fit in a stocking (believe me, I’ve tried.) However, the Pop Vinyl keychains are perfect stocking stuffer size, and let’s be honest, their small size makes them even cuter. These come in literally every character you can possibly think of!

Comic Books // If your guy is into comics this is an easy one to toss in his stocking. Make sure you stick this one in his stocking carefully to avoid the comic book from getting bent!

Christmas Ornament // Since my very first Christmas, my parents have gotten my brother and I an ornament every single year so that we could easily decorate our own trees when we got older. This is a tradition I loved and that I’ve carried over. Every year, I get M and ornament. Since he grew up Jewish, he never had ornaments of his own, so now our tree has ornaments that describe the both of us! I love to make this gift extra personal by choosing an ornament from one of his favorite TV shows or movies, or something that describes the past year.

Travel Size Body Care // Any type of small travel size body wash is perfect for a stocking. M’s favorite is Dirty Springwash from Lush. It’s smells super minty fresh!

Novelty Socks // This is a fun one that I include every year. Fun novelty socks can be found nearly anywhere. Last year, I got M some Star Wars ones from the Target Dollar Spot!

Phone case // If your guy likes to switch up his phone case often, this one’s a no brainer. You can find nearly any type of style and variety so there’s bound to be something every guy will like.

Video games or movies // I always included a video game, movie, or some sort of technology related gift for the first few years of M and I’s relationship. Now that he works at Best Buy (and owns literally every video game known to man) I can’t get away with any more techie gifts. But if your guy is into it, the newest video game or a movie he’s been dying to see is the perfect addition to his stocking.

Get creative! // M and I are both obsessed with television shows, and love watching them together. I love including something that incorporates his favorite show. These Game of Thrones shot glasses are the perfect size for any stocking and help give the stocking a more personal touch.

Stocking stuffing tips//

  • Wrap some of the non-candy/food items in wrapping paper to make opening the stocking even more fun!
  • Put the heaviest things towards the bottom of the stocking, such as a bottle of shower gel.
  • If you have any tall or skinny items, have them peeking out of the stocking a bit to help save room for the larger items.
  • When all else falls, stuff that stocking with his favorite candy and snacks. You can never go wrong with food!

I hope these tips help you with filling up your guys stocking this year. If you have any other fun or creative stocking stuffer ideas, leave them in the comments below!
